Thanksgiving evening, November 27, at Loyola House of Studies, Ateneo de Manila University was also an occasion to celebrate two Jubilarians: Fr Roger Champoux (PHI), Tertian Instructor for EAO Tertianship, has 50 years in the Society, and Fr Bill McGarry (NYK), Assistant Tertian Instructor, has now 50 years in priesthood.

Jem Guevara’s Priestly Ordination & Thanksgiving Mass

Last August 15, Rev. Jerome Emmanuel Guevara was ordained to the priesthood in the Oratory of St. Ignatius de Loyola, Loyola House of Studies (LHS), Philippines. The ordination started at 2p.m. and was presided by the Arch. of Cagayan de Oro, His Eminence Antonio J. Ledesma, DD. Since Jem was a former Arrupean, the Arrupe International Residence (AIR) Community came to witness the momentous event. Chinese delegates from Taiwan also came to join the celebration. After the mass, a simple refreshment followed at the Richie Fernando Covered Court near LHS.

Tertians on exposure

After three weeks in Loyola House, and now that they have settled down smoothly in their new quarters for the coming six months, it is time this week for the Tertians to get out of their new "comfort zone" and experience another aspect of Filipino life. They will now spend eight days with poor Filipino families in the squatter area of Navotas in order to have a "feel" (schola affectus indeed) of simple family living and see how lived faith gives hope and slowly brings about justice.

To develop a sensus christi through sharing lives with the local people and to strengthen the apostolic spirit through the concrete experiences of a mission trial, the first year juniors underwent a Summer Exposure Program. Last April 14, eight juniors traveled by ship to Mindanao.

Arrupeans on Foreign Mission Exposure Program (FMEP)

By the end of the second semester of the school year 2007-2008, some scholastics immediately prepared for their Foreign Mission Exposure Program (FMEP). The main purpose of this program is to help the scholastic develop the Jesuit character of being available "to be sent anywhere in the world." The program allows a kind of "dreaming experience" where one experiences what it feels like to be sent to a place with a different culture, language, political situation, and to work with other Jesuits and their colleagues.
