New Director for the Language Institute

Fr Paul Dass (MAS) will be coming to Taunggyi, to be the Director of Gonzaga Language Institute. Paul will begin his work around the beginning of January 2010. While waiting for his arrival, Ms Irene Ho continues to do both jobs as Director and Principal. When Paul arrives, and has his introduction to the ministry, he will take over the position of Director, and Irene will continue as Principal.

SAG Summer Outreach Program 2009

This Summer of 2009, St. Aloysius Gonzaga English Language Institute (SAGELI, also known as SAG in Taunggyi) carried out an Outreach Program in the Diocese of PheKhon in collaboration with some different organizations such as Pyoe Khinn Education Center in PheKhon, and an Italian based NGO known as AVSI.

Increasing Cohesiveness in Education

Progress was on the cards last week when representatives from Jesuit universities and colleges gathered at Canisius in Sydney for the 2009 General Assembly of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in East Asia and Oceania (AJCU-EAO).

The assembly is held each year with the aim of trying to ‘better understand our shared educational mission, to dovetail our educational efforts, which often are very atomised, and to dovetail them more with the work of the Jesuit Conference of South East Asia and Oceania and the Society of Jesus’, said Fr Joel Tabora (PHI), Chairman of the AJCU-EAO . In addition, this year’s conference discussed its contribution to be made at next year’s World conference of Jesuit Presidents.

Educational cooperation with Chinese University

The mission of the International Center for the Promotion of Partner Based Learning is to promote cross cultural and interdisciplinary cooperation leading to education of the whole person in the field of higher education. The focus is on cooperation between those taught and those teaching with a view to finding more effective educational models. Particular interest is in the part played in such education by former students.

The care for person at Sanata Dharma University

Sanata Dharma University (SDU) offered three batches of workshop on student Ignatian accompaniment on May 16, 23 and 30. The workshop participants, coming from all twenty-five SDU departments, learned how to carry out the accompaniment in the spirit of care for person (cura personalis) in a challenging and broken world. As faculty members, they creatively designed the accompaniment through their respective study subject (classroom) management.
